Brown Salt & Pepper Flat Cap $64.95
100% Handmade in Ireland, guaranteed!
The classic Irish "flat cap" featuring County Donegal tweed, hand-loomed by Eddie Doherty, master weaver.
This cap is woven in the "salt & pepper" pattern, comprised of brown and off-white yarns. 100% pure new Irish wool. Rugged and soft, textured and unique, Eddie Doherty is famous for his tweed.
Snap closure on the 2" brim. Neatly finished with satin lining and interior hat band. Sewn-in label of authenticity reads, "Eddie Doherty. Handwoven Tweed. Ardara. Co. Donegal. Ireland." Although traditionally a men's cap, this style cap has been gaining popularity with women.
With over 50 years experience, Eddie Doherty is one of only a few remaining handweavers working in Donegal, the most northern county in Ireland (and the capital of Irish tweed). If you've ever seen or felt Eddie Doherty's tweeds, you instantly recognize the quality of his weaving. Working on an antique loom in the small North Atlantic village of Ardara, Eddie Doherty produces wool that is beautiful, nuanced, and complex. Eddie Doherty's work is legendary.
What's different between hand-loomed tweed vs. power-loomed tweed? "Power loomed" tweed is wool that is woven by machine and while it makes for a more "perfect" weave, it leaves out the distinctive texture and characteristics of the handweaver.
Don't settle for cheap imitations when you can get the real thing!
